Through understanding material agency it is possible to design and program functional transformation properties of materials by mapping available inputs (stimuli) to related outputs (responses). Currently smart materials are characterized by translating stimuli energy into other forms of energy (Gonzáles, 2018).

Can paper have shape memory properties?

Previously crumpled, folded and rolled paper stripes are exposed to water and reveal their behaviour.
